Saints cut long snapper Drescher with injury settlement

METAIRIE, La. (AP) - The Saints have cut long snapper Justin Drescher after reaching an injury settlement with the veteran who has played for New Orleans each of the past seven seasons.

The move, announced Wednesday, comes after the Saints traded a 2019 seventh-round draft choice to Philadelphia for veteran long snapper Jon Dorenbos earlier this week.

During New Orleans' preseason game last weekend, Saints trainers could be seen examining Drescher after a special teams play. However, the club never disclosed his injury.

Drescher is close with Saints punter Thomas Morstead. The two have been teammates since 2010 and have said they worked out together in the offseason, when Drescher was a free agent. Morstead has repeatedly praised Drescher's performance since his return to New Orleans during training camp.
