Get a tour Aurora's new Hill Elementary School Thursday

On Thursday, Aug. 17, West Aurora Unit District 129 will unveil the new Hill Elementary School, 724 Pennsylvania Ave. in Aurora, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours at 6 p.m.

The public is invited. After a welcome by Superintendent Jeff Craig, a ribbon will be cut and the building will be open for tours.

Hill and other District 129 schools open the 2017-18 school year Wednesday, Aug. 16.

On April 7, 2015, District 129 residents approved a $84.2 million referendum for school additions, geothermal heating and cooling systems and construction of a new Hill School on the site of the original school, built in 1888.

The former school was one of the oldest functioning school buildings in Illinois. Hill hosted an open house on May 12 to celebrate 128 years of educating students in West Aurora.
