TriCity Family Services' golf outing to include helicopter ball drop

One hundred golfers are anticipated for TriCity Family Services' golf outing on Monday, Sept. 11, at Royal Fox Country Country Club in St. Charles. The event will be co-chaired by James Alderfer and Michelle Rollins.

Beginning at 11 a.m. with registration, the outing includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, on-course gimmicks and hole contests (hole-in-one wins a Subaru Outback (sponsored by Gerald Subaru of North Aurora), dinner and awards program.

In addition, this year's event also will feature two special elements: a Sept. 11 tribute and an inaugural helicopter ball drop.

Prior to the 1 p.m. shotgun start, local first responders from St. Charles, Batavia and Geneva fire and police departments will join golfers for a flag-raising ceremony and brief moment of silence, commemorating Patriot Day.

While the golf outing was not scheduled specifically for this tribute, golf committee members agreed that it would be fitting to acknowledge the day's significance and purposefully invited local police and fire officials to take part.

Cocktail hour will commence after golf at 5:30 p.m., generously sponsored by Griffin Williams.

At approximately 6 p.m., preceding dinner, will be a first-ever helicopter ball drop that will provide a memorable closing to the outdoor festivities.

Flown by AM Air Service, a helicopter will descend on Royal Fox Country Club carrying pre-numbered golf balls purchased for this event.

Golf balls will be dropped from the helicopter hovering over a designated hole.

The ball closest to the hole wins a 50/50 cash prize, with half of the proceeds being donated to the Sept. 11 memorial.

The fee is $175. It will include an 18-hole scramble, lunch, hole contests, raffles, live auction, barbecue dinner and awards program. Cost for dinner only is $50. To register, visit www.tricityfamilyservices.org/tcfs-golf-tournament/.

Golf balls for the helicopter drop will be sold to the public and may be purchased in advance or at the event: $25 for one, five for $100. All golf balls can be purchased at www.tricityfamilyservices.org/tcfs-golf-tournament/.

Those who purchase do not need to be present to win.

Attendees will then retreat to the clubhouse for a barbecue buffet prepared by Royal Fox and dinner program led by masters of ceremony Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns and Scott Mackay, 95.9 The River, which will include a live auction, fund-a-cause and awards presentation.

All proceeds from the golf outing will be used to fund mental health programs and services provided by TriCity Family Services, now celebrating its 50th anniversary of serving the community.
