Swimming beaches reopen

Fifteen licensed swimming beaches in the Chain O' Lakes have reopened but cautioned is advised, according to the Lake County Health Department. The Chain has been closed to boating since mid-July and recreational swimming was not advised. As waters receded, the health department tested the licensed swimming beaches for the presence of E. coli bacteria. All test results indicated E. coli levels were below the unsafe range. Residents can test their own lake water by picking up a bottle from the health department Lab, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. The cost is $18/sample. Swim bans or advisories are posted daily at https://www.lakecountyil.gov/2385/Beach-Advisory.
