Singles invited to Halloween dance and costume contest in Bartlett Oct. 30th

Singles age 40 and up from all towns are invited to the St. Charles Singles Club's Annual Halloween Dance and Costume Contest, October 30th at Villa Olivia Golf and Ski Resort, 1401 West Lake Street (Rte. 20 and Naperville/Munger Roads), Bartlett, 7:30 to 11:00 pm. Be entertained and a part of the entertainment by being in the costume contest. You may win a prize: 1st Place is $75; 2nd, $50 and 3rd, $25.

Enjoy socializing and dancing with other singles to the live music of the Sting-Rays. We will be dancing in the beautiful Crystal Room. It has a spacious wooden dance floor, large chandeliers, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the resort's grounds and a cash bar, no food. Admission is $8 for members and $12 for non-members.

Last year our 1st Place winner was dressed as a Dinosaur that walked, roared and even pooped on the floor. The 30-pound costume took months to make. In 2015 our 1st Place winner was Ken Plique. He dressed as a Transformer, see photo. After he knelt down on the floor and pulled everything together he looked like a car.

The St. Charles Singles Club is celebrating its 40th year of providing social and dance activities for singles. It is an Illinois not-for-profit organization. There are no paid staff. It is entirely operated by elected officers and appointed board members who welcome the participation of the many member-volunteers. This keeps participation costs low and the focus on our singles.

Membership is $20 a year. It provides price discounts to dances, the annual picnic and Christmas dinner dance and as many other outings as possible. Groups of members regularly see free theater productions and frequently play pinochle and other card and board games.

More than 200 events are held each year at various locations. These include weekly Saturday breakfasts; DJ dances with music by Fast Freddy on 2nd and 4th Mondays and band dances on 5th Mondays. Attire for dances is dressy-casual. Most months also feature seasonal events such as spring and summer golf, bike rides, baseball games and concerts in the park. Bowling, bocce ball and dinners add to the things to do.

Special outing coming up include Arlington Race Track, Sept. 9th; Fish Boil at Fitzgerald's in Wisconsin, Sept. 30th; Road Rally Oct. 7th; Chili Cook-off and Brunch in the Park, Oct. 8th; Halloween Costume and Band Dance, Oct. 30th; Salute to Veterans Dance, Nov. 13th; and the Christmas Dinner Dance, Dec. 15th.
