Lawmaker fights for schools, students
We need political leaders like state Rep. Michelle Mussman who truly represent and fight for the needs of our communities.
Michelle has proved to be a dedicated, conscientious, and capable state representative who puts the needs of constituents over politics. Residents can be assured that when they contact her office, there is no concern, complaint or constituent that goes forgotten or ignored.
As a rising college senior, and an active member of my institution's student government, an issue I care deeply about is the rising costs of higher education in our nation. A short four years ago, when my search for the "perfect" school began, similar to many of my peers, I was searching for the best education at an affordable institution.
With increasing global competition for jobs, it is critical that universities prepare students to enter the workforce without forcing them to take on debilitating debt.
As a lifelong resident of Schaumburg and proud Illinoisan, it was a bit of a disappointment that I had to continue my education out of state. Sadly, Illinois made the decision to leave the state for college easier because of the long budget impasse and the fact that some comparable institutions in neighboring states are less expensive despite the out-of-state tuition rates.
If Illinois wants to remain competitive, it must make investment in higher education institutions a priority.
I know my state representative, Michelle Mussman, understands this and is fighting hard in Springfield to ensure that state universities can be competitive and affordable in order to attract future leaders from Illinois and across the country.
