GOP lawmakers caved to enemies of reform
There are so few Republicans in the Illinois legislature that their votes make a difference only when a super majority is required.
But some Republicans (David Harris, Mike Fortner and Steve Andersson among them) surrender the only leverage the people have, and obligingly supply the margin of victory to the enemies of needed reform.
The dictator-led Democrats who otherwise control everything have refused to pass any of the reforms the state needs. Governor Rauner has had to make those reforms a precondition for not vetoing other legislation.
As Fortner and Andersson break ranks and repeatedly and defiantly disarm the governor of the only weapon he has to fight for us, they intone pious platitudes of noble excuses for their desertion in the face of the enemy. Really, it is not conscience, but cowardice.
They had no opponents in the last election, but anyone who secures merely 500 signatures this autumn can become one. Then voters can choose people who will not cave in when it counts.
