Golf Center Des Plaines hosts Father's Day tournament
The Golf Center Des Plaines hosted its annual Dad & Me Golf Tournament Saturday, June 18, on the nine-hole, par 3 course.
The competition awards prizes in two brackets: Dads with a "Me over 18" and dads with a "Me under 18." Teams alternate their shots and the lowest combined score at the end wins the coveted Dad & Me trophy.
This year's winners in the under-18 bracket were 15-year-old Josh and his dad George Strickland from Riverwoods with a score of 31. Returning 2016 winners Mike and Nate Bibbey came in a close second with their score of 32.
The "Me over 18" bracket offered some extra excitement, as it finished in a tie between Max and Paul Henley from Park Ridge and Joe and Ken Schmidt from Arlington Heights, with both teams posting a score of 36.
All of the first-place winners receive a one-month Unlimited Driving Range membership, worth $130.
The tournament always features contests on several holes. On No. 3, the Closest to the Pin winner was Joe Schmidt. On No. 4, the Longest Putt award went to Brooke Schueller. Greg Bradshaw claimed the top prize for two contests: Closest to the Pin on hole No. 6, and the Longest Putt on No. 9.
"We had beautiful weather for this special Father's Day tournament," said Golf and Facilities Supervisor Tyler Fuchs. "It's great to see so many of our regulars return every year to have a good time golfing together on the course."
