Disrespect for the flag

I was a member of the VFW participating in the Hoffman Estates July Fourth parade. I was ashamed at all the adults and children that paid little or no attention to the passing of the American flag. I know it is not taught or even mentioned that it is proper to at least remove your hat or cap when the flag passes. Most of the people were too busy asking and begging for candy.
