The Kildeer Police Department and the Neumann's Cigars & More store in Long Grove have formed a partnership to support the men, women and children with physical and intellectual disabilities that participate in year-round training and competition throughout Illinois.

The fifth annual Special Olympics Illinois Cars and Cigars event is a family car show to helps raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 16, in the parking lot by Neumann's Cigars & More, 445 Robert Parker Coffin Road, Long Grove.

"There is a special place in the hearts of all law enforcement officers throughout the state of Illinois to help support those in need," said Kildeer Chief of Police Steve Balinski, adding that Julie and Ken Neumann from Cigars & More have developed a special relationship with both law enforcement and Special Olympics Illinois by sponsoring the event.

Last year there were more than 100 cars on display and the Kildeer Police Department raised more than $12,500.

In addition to the cars on display, the event will include food, music, cigar specials, a silent auction, and more. A police dog demonstration will take place at 2 p.m.

Car show registration begins at 11 a.m. There will be prizes for Best in Show, People's Choice awards, and trophies for top entries. The cost to enter a car into the show is a $20 donation to Special Olympics.

The alternate rain date is Sunday, Aug. 6.
