Keep rockin' at Vernon Hills Summer Celebration

The annual Summer Celebration returns to Vernon Hills Thursday through Sunday, July 13-16, at Century Park, 1001 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills.

The festival will feature food, carnival rides and games, live music and other attractions all four days, including a fireworks show, hit-making bands of the '90s, a car and bike show, the "Cream a Cop" fundraiser, Vernon Hills "Idol" Karaoke, and more.

Carnival hours are 6-10 p.m. Thursday, 6-11 p.m. Friday, 1-11 p.m. Saturday and 1-7 p.m. Sunday. Carnival tickets are $1 each, with 44 tickets available for $40. Wristband specials are available Thursday for $25, Friday for $30 (valid 6-10 p.m.), Saturday for $25 (valid 1-5 p.m.) or $30 (valid 6-10 p.m.), and Sunday for $30.

Musical performances kick off Thursday at 7 p.m. with Hello Weekend. On Friday, Henneberry will perform at 7 p.m., followed by Mike & Joe at 9 p.m.

Saturday is all about the '90s, with performances by The Verve Pipe, the band behind the chart-topping hit "The Freshmen," at 7 p.m., followed by headliner Toad the Wet Sprocket, known for hits like "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean," at 9 p.m.

The Fireworks Spectacular will light up the night sky at 9:15 p.m. Thursday. The fourth annual Car and Bike Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. This year it is not necessary to register in advance to be part of the show; all cars and bikes will be registered on-site.

The fifth annual Bags Tournament will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Anyone 18 or older can register alone or as part of a doubles team. For rules and registration, visit www.summercel.com/bags-tourney.

Anyone 16 and older can take part in the Vernon Hills "Idol" Karaoke from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The "Cream a Cop" fundraiser returns for its second year at 3 p.m. Sunday to raise funds for the Foundation for Angleman's Syndrome Therapeutics and Nathan Gillespie, the son of an officer, who was diagnosed with the disorder.
