Schaumburg A.M. Rotary recognizes Frost Jr. High School teacher
Tim Gerhardt, 2016/17 club president, presented Schaumburg A.M. Rotary's "Service Above Self" Award to Robert Frost Jr. High School teacher Gerritt Snyder during its June 27th gathering at Schaumburg's Granite City Food & Brewery.
The award recognizes Snyder's "excellence in his profession and his dedication, commitment and willingness to go the extra mile for his students, both as a teacher and faculty advisor to the Interact Club of Robert Frost Jr. High School".
Snyder is employed by School District 54 as a 7th grade social studies teacher at Frost Jr. High, which is one of five junior high schools in the district. In addition, he is one of several founding faculty advisors of the student led Frost Interact Club, which is a Rotary sponsored service program for young leaders ages 12 - 18.
Interact Clubs empower young people to develop leadership skills while at the same time discovering the meaning behind the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self". Members connect with community leaders both locally and around the world to make a positive difference in their school and community, discover new cultures and promote international understanding, in addition to having fun and making new friends.
Schaumburg A.M. Rotary sponsors the Frost Interact Club with Rotarian Lori Corrigan serving as student mentor, guide and liaison between the two organizations.
Membership in Rotary runs the spectrum from young professionals to retired seniors looking for opportunities to be "People of Action" by making a positive difference in their community. Schaumburg A.M. Rotary meets on Wednesday morning at 7:00 am at Schaumburg's Egg Harbor Café located at 1310 American Lane.
