Schaumburg Offering Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event June 24

The Village of Schaumburg is sponsoring a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event designed to give the public an opportunity to responsibly dispose of harmful hazardous waste products.

The event, which is open to the general public, will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24 in the east parking lot of Motorola Solutions, 1301 Algonquin Road. There is no cost to participate. Long lines are anticipated at the event, and participants may be expected to wait so patience is appreciated during the drop-off process. Household hazardous waste will be accepted only; waste from businesses will not be collected.

The coordination of the event, which is a first of its kind in Schaumburg, directly provides sustainability opportunities based on participant feedback received from the 2016 National Citizen Survey. From that survey, 71 percent of 1,500 randomly mailed recipients said a household hazardous waste collection event was very important/essential.

Items accepted at the event ranges from aerosol paints and pesticides, antifreeze, gasoline, lawn chemicals and motor oil to oil-based paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents and many others. For a full list of accepted and non-accepted items, please visit the village's website at www.schaumburg.com.

Residents may also dial 311 within Schaumburg for answers to specific recycling event questions or call (847) 895-4500 outside of Schaumburg.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event is being sponsored by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), the Village of Schaumburg and Urban Street Group, which recently purchased the Motorola Solutions property.
