Treat Trump as Obama was treated

In the past few weeks, the Daily Herald published several letters to the editor from individuals requesting or demanding that Democrats support Donald Trump since his election as president. It is only proper that everyone who did not support Trump still give him the same level of support that Republicans gave to President Obama

Let's examine just two issues that show the level of support the Republicans offered to President Obama, health care and appointment of a Supreme Court justice.

The Republicans absolutely refused to work with Democrats to improve the Affordable Care Act, choosing instead to vote for its repeal over 50 times in the House of Representatives. After Trump's inauguration, Republicans in the House again repealed the ACA. and sent to the Senate their replacement bill.

Their proposal allows each state the right to determine which pre-existing conditions will be covered and which may be eliminated. An analysis of the Republican Plan by the Congressional Budget Office stated that 23 million fewer individuals will be covered in the next 10 years and there will be significantly higher rates for older participants.

When Justice Scalia died in February 2016, there were 11 months left on President Obama's term. He sent to the Senate, for their consent, his choice for Scalia's replacement, a centrist and a well-respected chief judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Merrick Garland. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not even give him the courtesy of a hearing, leastwise a vote.

This president has never attempted to elicit cooperation with the Democrats, and has not even met with the House and Senate Democrats since his inauguration. Do you expect the Democrats to just fall into line and support Trump like the Republicans who have shown that they value party over patriotism?

As Donald Trump so often tweets, SAD.
