Yoga festival takes practice outdoors

Yogis can practice poses in the setting of beautiful gardens during the upcoming Root to Rise Yoga Fest at the Morton Arboretum.

The yoga festival will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the arboretum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle.

The event will allow participants to practice yoga to the beat of music pumped in from a live DJ through wireless LED headphones. Participants are able to adjust the sound of the music and instructor during the 75-minute Power Yoga Sound Off Experience, led by Lauren Duncan of NEXT yoga.

"Last year's fest was a transforming experience," Duncan said. "Coming together as a community and celebrating life is what it's all about."

This year's event includes a Kids' Corner, Family Flow Yoga class for parents and kids, and a Sound Meditation Class.

"Whether you're a seasoned yogi or new to yoga, Root to Rise Yoga Fest is fun for all," Duncan said.

Guests are encouraged to stroll and shop at the Health and Wellness Market featuring goods and services from vendors and sponsors, balance on slack lines, experience Acro Yoga and Aerial Yoga, or simply dance to the beat of the DJ. Participants should bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes. Everyone gets a free swag bag.

The schedule is as follows:

• 10 a.m. registration and tribal body painting

• 11 a.m. open air power yoga class with LED Sound Off headphones; bring your own mat

• 11:45 a.m. slack lines, Acro yoga, Aerial yoga, Kids Corner, DJ and dancing, Health and Wellness Market

• 1 p.m. Family Flow Yoga class

• 2 p.m. Sound Healing Meditation class
