Boys volleyball: Rolling Meadows handles Conant

Rolling Meadows' boys volleyball team extended its recent weekend success by topping Conant on Tuesday.

Behind 14 kills from Logan Reese, the Mustangs prevailed 29-27, 25-20 against the Cougars in a Mid-Suburban League divisional crossover. Marc Quezada contributed 17 digs along with 12-for-13 serving (and an ace), and Arthur Barczak had 2 blocks.

On Saturday, Rolling Meadows produced a 5-0 effort to take top honors in the tournament hosted by Fremd.

• Buffalo Grove won its MSL divisional crossover, claiming a 26-24, 25-23 decision against Fremd in the matchup of second-place finishers.

Leading the way for Buffalo Grove were Danny Zickert (3 aces, 35-for-35 setting and 8 assists), Chris Tsourmas (5 kills), Ian Van Wazer (11-for-14 hitting, 1 kill) and Ryan Horvath (8-for-8 hitting, 5 kills).

Top performers for Fremd (17-11) included Aaron Peterson (9 kills, 3 blocks), Jacob Peterson (8 assists) and Alex Wysocki (12 digs).

• Leyden topped Morton 25-21, 25-19 to wrap up West Suburban Gold play with a 4-2 record. Leading the way for the Eagles were Devinn Wood (5 blocks, 4 kills), Mike Motyka (5 blocks, 4 kills, 20 assists) and Eddie Lavallais (7 kills).

• Palatine came up with a 29-27, 17-25, 25-21 victory over Wheeling.

Johnny O'Shea led the Pirates with 12 kills and 16 digs, and Ben Rinella provided 27 setting assists.

The Wildcats' top performers were Jared Moser (13 kills,7 digs, 2 aces), Matt Schiferl (15 digs), Oleg Boyanivsky (3 blocks) and Kyle Bagarella and Sono Tsogtbaatar (17 assists apiece).

• St. Viator topped Carmel Catholic 29-27, 25-19 to finish at 5-3 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference and improve to 15-19 overall.

Senior middle Pat Doherty had 7 kills, 2 blocks and 2 digs. Other efforts came from senior middle Nick Garth (6 kills, 2 blocks) and junior right side Will Heneghan (5 kills, 1 block).

"Our service game was big tonight," said St. Viator coach Jimmy Neill. "We had timely blocking when it was needed. We did the little things right the majority of the match."

• Miguel Pineda had 6 kills and Michael Swan had 4 to help Hoffman Estates to a 25-20, 25-22 victory over Elk Grove in their MSL crossover.

Elk Grove's Kevin Braceros had a big hitting performance (26-for-33, 12 kills) along with 11-for-11 serving, while John Duncker had 13 assists and Carlos Leon provided 13 digs.
