Mundelein man pleads guilty to 2015 Mount Prospect shooting

A Mundelein man who became a fugitive after shooting at teens in a Mount Prospect parking lot pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 years in prison Monday.

Edham Salkic, 24, pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm in exchange for the sentence, court records show. Salkic also pleaded guilty to violation of bail bond in exchange for a three-year prison sentence. He will serve the sentences concurrently.

Authorities say Salkic, a native of Yugoslavia, and a juvenile shot at two teenagers about 11 p.m. Jan. 6, 2015, while they sat in a car in the 400 block of East Euclid Ave. Police say the teens were in the car with another person from whom they intended to buy marijuana. The teens told police Salkic and the juvenile approached the car armed with handguns and demanded the marijuana. As the car drove away, Salkic and the juvenile fired at the vehicle, authorities said. No one was injured.

Salkic failed to show up at his February 2015, court date. He eluded police until his recapture on Jan. 31, 2017.

Salkic, who received credit for 106 days in custody, was also ordered to pay $1,168 in fines.
