Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois name additions to board of directors

The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois announced additions to its board of directors at the organization's annual meeting on April 29. The board consists of dedicated volunteers who will assist in strategy and oversight for Girl Scouts residing in all or parts of Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties.

The board appointed Gretchen Guimarin of Lake Zurich as associate director. A first-year student at Lake Zurich High School, she has been an active Girl Scout for eight years and is in the process of earning her Girl Scout "Sow What" Journey. She is an active member of the "Leos" volunteer program and Lake Zurich High School's Scholastic Bowl, Math Team, Ultimate Team, Science Team, Student Council, Treble Choir, GSA, and sings with a private voice school.

Archie Needam of Aurora and Jean Marie Saidler of Crystal Lake were named to serve as directors-at-large on the board.

Needham also serves as a member of GSNI's board development committee. He is a former board president of Girl Scouts of Fox Valley Council. His community affiliations include board member of the Aurora Public Library, Aurora Township's Youth Commission Quad, County Urban League, Kiwanis Club of Aurora (former president and current member), Tomorrow's Scientists, Technicians and Managers, and St. John's A.M.E. Church in Aurora. He received the 2003 Kane County Distinguished Educator Award and in 2005 was the recipient of the City of Aurora's Outstanding African-American Award. He is a retired West Aurora High School counselor.

Saidler also serves as a member of GSNI's property committee and strategic learning process team. Her community affiliations include Rotary International, Paul Harris Fellow, Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Council, and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Governing Council. She is an active lector for St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake. Saidler is the founder and owner of JMS Consultations Inc., a national strategic turnkey marketing agency.

Lois Wollney of Barrington was named chairwoman of board development committee. She currently serves as director-at-large on GSNI's board of directors. Her community affiliations include the Financial Planning Association and the Barrington Chamber of Commerce. She is currently employed as a certified financial planner at Morgan Stanley.

St. Charles resident Linda Caine also was named to the board development committee. She is a previous president and first vice president for the board of Girl Scouts of the Fox Valley and a former National Council delegate. Her community affiliations include Stephen Ministers and elder and deacon for Fox Valley Presbyterian Church. She is currently employed at the St. Charles Park District, retired from St. Charles East High School.

Other recently elected positions to the board include:

• Officers: Mark M. Ackerman (Pecatonica, Illinois), second vice chair; and Christin Giedd (Dixon, Illinois), secretary;

• Directors-at-large: Vicky Kohlbacher (Rockford, Illinois); Kimberly Kuborn (Cherry Valley, Illinois); and Angela Schmidt (Rockton, Illinois).

• Associate directors: Meg Basco (Lakemoor, Illinois); and Jacqueline Wright (Roscoe, Illinois).
