Wauconda resident treated for smoke inhalation

Smoke inhalation sent a Wauconda resident to the hospital Tuesday evening.

According to a news release, the Wauconda Fire District received a call just before 7 p.m. about a fire in a mobile home on the 400 block of Barrington Road. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from an open front door and discovered the source was a closed oven.

Power and gas to the oven were shut off, and the oven was removed from the home.

Investigators found the oven had inadvertently been placed in the self-cleaning mode, heating the pots and plastic containers the resident had been storing inside. Neither of the home's smoke detectors was working, according to the release.

The homeowner was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington.
