Gallop, trot or strut to Heritage Farm for the All About Animals Series

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Find out during the Schaumburg Park District's All About Animals Series.

Starting April 18, children ages 3 to 5 are invited to visit Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road, and learn about livestock through story time, crafts and interacting with the animals. Each class will feature different themes and activities focused on particular animals, including chickens, horses, cows and pigs.

"This series is a great opportunity for children to see farm animals up close at an age when they're used to only seeing them in books," said Patricia Kennedy, farm program coordinator. "These are domestic animals that have been around for centuries and used to be a mainstay in most people's lives."

Cost is $2 per child. Classes start promptly at 9 a.m. Registration is not required.

Upcoming classes in the series include:

• Chicken Chat, April 18

• Horsing Around, April 25

• Wow Cows!, May 2

• Hog Talk, May 9.
