Top District 25 vote-getter may live outside district

The top vote-getter in Tuesday's election for Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 school board says she's requesting an official boundary check after her own ballot contained the race for neighboring Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59.

Anisha Patel, founder of an educational consulting firm and a former District 25 curriculum coordinator and assistant principal, contacted Cook County election and District 25 officials, who said it may be a mapping error. Patel's house sits on the border of the two school districts, even though her children have attended District 25 schools since 2008, she wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday night.

It wasn't immediately clear whether she would be able to take a seat on the District 25 board.

According to unofficial returns, Patel tallied 3,188 votes, followed by school board secretary Erin Johannesen with 2,712, board President David Page with 2,448 and incumbent Richard Olejniczak with 2,333.

There were four available 4-year seats on the board.

Trailing those four were 12-year incumbent Denise Glasgow with 2,162, Chris Salituro with 1,448 and Joe Selbka with 1,233.

The board provides oversight of a district with seven elementary schools, two middle schools and 5,496 students. The district faces several issues, including growing enrollment, a building space crunch, and whether to implement full-day kindergarten.
