Wauconda High School FBLA students impress at state conference

The 68th Annual FBLA State Leadership Conference was held March 24 and 25 at the Crown Plaza in Springfield.

Over 1,200 students from 65 high schools competed in 70 different competitions from test/case study, report/presentation and individual and team presentations. The Wauconda High School FBLA had a total of 88 competitors in which 86 traveled to the state conference.

Wauconda FBLA competed in 50 different competitive events. Of the school competitors, 79 (88 percent) received top 10 awards. W.H.S.'s Shawna Weber was voted in as FBLA State Secretary for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. Tommy O'Brien was elected in January of this year as the FBLA Northern Area president. This is the first time since 1954 that Wauconda High School has had two state officers.

Wauconda High School received the following Chapter Awards:

• Gold Seal Chapter Award

• Connecting the Generations Award: Meals For All Community Dinners

• Second Place: March of Dimes Best Promotional Design

• Second Place: Robert Stickler Outstanding Chapter Award

• Second Place: Largest Local Professional Membership Award

• Third Place: Largest Local Chapter Membership Award

Individual First Place (State Champion) Awards:

• Business Communications: Tommy O'Brien

• Community Service Project: Emma Lewandowski and Grace Lewandowski

• Digital Video Production: Luke Johnson, Kelly Kroegel and Shannon Stortz

• Graphic Design: Taylor Lambert, Ally Olsen and Kelly Weller

• Hospitality Management: Taylor Arden, Amy Richardson and Phillip Solis

• Introduction Information Technology: Josh Feryance

• Local Chapter Annual Business Report: Chloe Cardaras, Katrina Nishioka and Tommy O'Brien

• Public Service Announcement: McKenzie Dopak, Lori Krawczyk and Eli Wurster
