Local AAUW to host awards program for writing competition

Eighteen students from area middle schools will receive medals from the 2016 writing competition from the American Association of University Women Batavia-Geneva-St. Charles Branch.

Prizes are awarded for original fiction, nonfiction and poetry. The annual contest has been sponsored by the Tri-City AAUW for more than 30 years.

The program features an address by award-winning author Kerrie Hollihan, a past member of the AAUW branch. Her nonfiction books for young people have been honored by VOYA, Smithsonian Magazine, Bankstreet College of Education, National Science Teachers Association, the Chicago Public Library and the Junior Library Guild.

The awards program will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, in the fellowship hall of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1125 N. Fifth Ave., Route 25. St. Charles. For more information, email membershipaauw@yahoo.com.
