Candidates offer property tax freeze
There are four reasons not to vote for Mayor Broda and several reasons to vote for the Prosperity for Lisle candidates:
1. When we moved to Lisle more than 20 years ago, our property tax rate was lower than the tax rate for Naperville and Downers Grove. According to a Daily Herald article, the Lisle tax rate is now higher than Naperville and Downers Grove. Mayor Broda said this is comparing apples and oranges, but he has not offered an apples to apples comparison to promote a better understanding of this issue.
2. Mayor Broda has said he is pro-business. All the contractors that have worked on our house have indicated that Lisle is more difficult to work with than Naperville and Downers Grove. Even our former pastor said that Lisle is difficult to work with. All the empty business sites in Lisle tell the story.
3. Neither Mayor Broda nor any of the board members appeared at the nonpartisan open forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters on March 10 even though they were invited months earlier. All the other candidates were present at that meeting.
4. In an earlier Daily Herald article, it stated that Lisle has a higher proportion of apartments vs single family/condo residences than Naperville and Downers Grove. I asked a Lisle Zoning board member why the Main Street project was apartments and not condos. He replied that condos don't sell in Lisle. But for some reason condos do sell in Naperville and Downers Grove. We need more permanent residents in Lisle.
On the other hand, the Prosperity for Lisle candidates have pledged to freeze property taxes and offer government transparency (which we don't have now) and pro-business measures. Mayor Broda has been in office a long time and now it's time for a change.
