Girls soccer: Lakes shuts out CL Central
Bella Pighini and Alyssa Bombicino scored second-half goals, and Lakes' girls soccer team opened its season Saturday with a 2-0 win over host Crystal Lake Central.
Molly Bakrins and Payton Landy combined for the shutout, as each keeper had 5 saves.
Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said Crystal Lake Central started the game with a lot of energy and had some good chances to score, but his defense stood tall.
Lakes took control of the game at the start of the second half and, with the help of the wind, scored twice off long shots. Pighini scored on a direct kick to open the scoring and then assisted on Bombicino's goal. Bombicino knocked in a 30-yard shot that just got under the cross bar with 20 minutes to go.
New Trier 2, Lake Zurich 0: The host Trevians scored in each half.
Madison Hart made 10 saves in goal for Lake Zurich (0-2).
