Mexico trade policy could hurt farmers

President Donald Trump's threats to upend trade between Mexico and the U.S. have farmers concerned, especially following Mexico's plans to visit South American countries to buy corn. Mexico buys nearly all of its corn from the U.S., accounting for about 28 percent of total U.S. corn exports according to the USDA.

Rather than a knee-jerk reaction to vote Republican by Iowa farmers in the state, shouldn't they consider who has been primarily responsible for the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs from America, now with agricultural products in jeopardy, caused by the Trump Administration's invectives directed south of the border?

Elections, since the country was founded, have had unintended consequences. The election of this current president may be the costliest in history for states that basically thrive on corn production, in this case, those heavily dependent on international trade.
