I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and focus on Human Resources.Civic involvement: I have served on the Vernon Hills Police Commission for 3 years. I regularly attend a variety of Vernon Hills functions including Summer Celebration, Rib fest, National Night Out, and Cops on a Rooftop.Elected offices held: Candidate did not respond.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?Having lived and worked in Vernon Hills and the surrounding communities for over 30 years I have watched the town of Vernon Hills grow into something great! Vernon Hills has given me so many memories and opportunities that this is my chance to give back to a town I am passionate about. Using the experiences, I have gained on the Police Commission and my background in sales and technology I want to help drive the village forward in maintaining its tremendous reputation, while building for the future. I personally see every concern and challenges as an opportunity for growth.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Maintaining the villages Zero Dollar Property Tax bill is of the utmost importance, in my opinion, for any village board member moving forward. High property tax bills continue to be a concern for residents and it is the responsibility of the board to work with state and local entities to ensure property taxes remain in line. Alternatively we must also be aware of the challenges the state may present us with, in regards to Motor Fuel and Income tax and be prepared to seek alternative options, that DO NOT include property taxes.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?Having been on the Police Commission for the past 3 years I can say that I am extremely confident in our department's ability to handle any challenges they are presented with. However, complacency is not our objective and as a board we need to continue to invest in our department's ability to have superior training, resources, and community support. As our village and its visitors continue to grow so should our support and resources for the department. In conjunction with the Chief and his command staff I am confident we can address the present and continuously plan for the future.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?As a Village we need to continue to submit a balanced budget that allows us flexibility while continuing our AAA bond rating. I want to ensure that programs that support all our residents are of the utmost importance, and that we plan ahead for future expenses. We do not have a blank check to do everything that we want but we must ensure we maintain infrastructure including roads and storm sewers, and partner with our Park, Library and School districts to continue to provide the best in class services.What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?The retail base in Vernon Hills is strong and we will work to maintain that but must always be aware that at a moment's notice it could be gone. Therefore, what alternative business can we support that attract not only local residents but the surrounding communities? We need to invest in and consider art, entertainment, and social opportunities that can continually support buildings, events, and gatherings. I want to hear form residents what they are most interested in and what we can do as a community to support the greater good.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?The Village of Vernon Hills remains an exceptional place to live and work for many years. As a board we need to continue to listen to the concerns of the residents and make decisions that impact the majority. We have opportunities to grow a strong economic base in Melody Farms and the Town Center and must capitalize on those opportunities as presented. We must continue to press the state on infrastructure improvements that cannot be done alone including Route 45 and other major thoroughfares.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Jeff Bezos CEO Amazon. His entrepreneurial spirit and personal motivation are things I aspire to.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Treat everyone with the same level of respect that you would expect in return.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I wouldn't change a thing. If anything changed in my life I wouldn't be where, and who I am today.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Public Speaking/Effective Presentations. It taught me to gain and maintain the attention of an audience. I still use those lessons in my life today.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Never take for granted the time you have with family and friends. You never know when they might not be there next time.
