As Chairman of the Finance Committee we have had 8 straight years of a balanced budget with fiscal responsibility being a top priority. As Chairman of the Economic Development Committee we have seen steady economic growth in the village and are in the process of developing the corner of Route 12 and 120 which will be the economic engine for not only the Village of Lakemoor but surrounding communities for years to come. As a member of the Village Hall Design team we are finally bringing the residents of Lakemoor a new Village Hall that will enhance the image of the entire town. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. Our local sales tax of 1% is just right. It is not too high that it would deter businesses from comimg to the community but it is not too low to where we are struggling to make up for lost revenue.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns? The McHenry Township Fire Protection District , Fox Lake Fire Protection District and the Wauconda Fire Protection District have done a great job in providing excellent coverage for the residents of Lakemoor. In regards to our Police Department I could not be more proud of the service and coverage that they are providing the residents. Not only are they well prepared for the next ten years but for decades to come with an Explorers program which allows our active youth to take an active role in their community and their police department. As for public safety concerns the opioid and heroin overdoses are becoming more concerning but our police department is well prepared and has saved several lives using Narcan. This is not only a concern in our community but in many communites.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Our Finance Committee along with the Village Staff, and Village Board has done a great job keeping a balanced budget while not eliminating any services to the residents. What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I think it would be a good idea if one or two times a year the economic development directors or economic development committees of surrounding communities got together to brain storm ideas on how to increase the population density in our region. Commercial developers are not only looking at the population of a certain town but they are looking at the population denistiy of the surrounding towns. It's a great benefit to all communites if a neighboring town is creating rooftops. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? There are no more important issues than public saftety, fiscal responsibilty, and economic development.1. Public Safety- the number one role whether it be local, state, or federal government is to keep our residents safe. The Village Staff along with the Village Board see to it that our police department have the neccessary means to keep the police department properly staffed and properly trained to not only keep the residents safe but to keep themselves safe.2. Fiscal Responsibilty - We need to live within our means. We let our revenues dictate our spending. We do not and will not spend money we do not have.3. Economic Development - We need to continue the path we are on and create revenue through economic development to ease the tax burden on our residents. In closing, I want to thank the residents of Lakemoor for allowing me to serve them as a Trustee these past 8 years and hope to get the opportunity to continue to serve them the next four years. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.James MattisWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Importance of familyIf life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would study law to become a Supreme Court JusticeWhat was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Geography- It helped my obtain a job in Geographic Information SystemsIf you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Work Hard. You're entitled to nothing.
