I respect each and every person who resides in Lakemoor and value their opinions. I always have their best interest in mind when making tough decisions and truly recognize that I work for the people. My standards are set high and I believe I have represented our community well during the past four years and would like to continue with my efforts of being the voice of the people. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Regarding sales tax, I believe it is where it needs to be. We should not over-tax businesses because they will not want to stay in Lakemoor. Also, if our sales tax is too high, people will not want to move to Lakemoor. Regarding property taxes, I feel they are too high. People are moving out of the state of Illinois at an alarming rate, and high property taxes are part of the reason.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?I believe our police department has come a long way, not only in the workplace but also in the staff. With the new municipal building being built, our officers will have a more professional place to work which will assist them in doing their job more effectively and efficiently. Our Chief of Police holds his officers to the highest standards and expects nothing less which aids them in being prepared for just about anything. I have confidence in the Chief and in his decision making. With that said, I would like to see more female officers hired so we are able to have a more diverse police force. I do not see any public safety concerns at this time. With regards to our town's fire coverage, we are currently served by three fire protection districts "â#128;œ McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Fox Lake Fire Protection District, and Wauconda Fire Protection District. Ideally I think many towns would like their own fire department, but considering we have three that serve our community, I feel well-protected. I do not see any public safety concerns at this time.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Being that I have served on the Finance Committee for the past four years, I know we have done everything in our power to remain on a strict budget. We have kept a balanced budget and do not overspend which is hard for many communities to say. One area that I have always felt does not receive enough funds is our parks and recreation board. Community involvement is important to many people, young and old, and I would like to see more activities offered for not only the younger generations, but also for our seniors. What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet? With opioid abuse at an all-time high, and with deaths due to overdoses increasing, I would like to help develop a prevention program for youth that involves educating them on the harms of not only drug abuse, but more specifically opioid abuse. There are school-run programs now that statistically have shown to not be effective in keeping kids off of drugs. I would like to try and assist today's youth by taking a different approach, a more realistic approach, to drug education and consequences. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I am looking forward to seeing routes 12/120 developed. With new development comes challenges and I will ensure that such challenges are overcome to help bring new businesses to our town which both Lakemoor and surrounding communities may enjoy. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Senator Elizabeth WarrenWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Never give up on your dreams. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would spend more time with a dear family member that I lost a little over a year ago. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Psychology - It helped me prepare for my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Remain honest and do not lose your integrity.
