A Lakemoor letter to the editor: The mercurial American political system of continual change, unnecessary dismantling and eventual reversal of standing legislative directives is a clear detriment to generational progress.

The mercurial American political system of continual change, unnecessary dismantling and eventual reversal of standing legislative directives is a clear detriment to generational progress.

To think that we as a people would bridge the burgeoning chasm brought on by our two governing parties and somehow bring them together holds no sway today. We are divided and antiquated in our beliefs.

We are also, however, bound by our Constitution to uphold it front to back.

There have been five Democratic and five Republican presidents in my lifetime. Each one from Kennedy to Obama sought to distance his administration from the previous one by attempting to change everything on the docket.

Political oscillation works against the populace and only benefits the 1 percent. It leads to destabilization and uncertainty.

If we go down the road that appears in our darkest thoughs, the one that involves an Orwellian society at first brazenly bent on challenging the rights of some, then, eventually encompassing the liberties of all, we lose the initiative to thrive in the light of freedom.

The system works. The current administration doesn't.
