Color Pallet of 'Several' Shades of Grey: Two Single-Family Models Open at Timbers Edge in Northbrook

Two professionally decorated single-family home models are now open at Timbers Edge in north suburban Northbrook.

Timbers Edge, located at 3895 Dundee Road, just east of Sanders Road, offers 21 custom single-family homes.

"The new model homes showcase cutting-edge designs for the 2017 residential market," said Suzy Kogen-Friedman, principal of KZF Development. The models were decorated by Chicago designer Laura Basich of LBD Design.

"The first thing we did with both models was remove the walls that separated the kitchens from the great rooms," Basich said. "I wanted to open up the space creating a floor plan conducive for entertaining."

The Brookhaven (ranch) model features some traditional elements-all white kitchen cabinets with antique mirror accents, appliances hidden by cabinet panels, and cabinetry trim that are the focal point of the living area.

Crown molding flows into coiffured ceilings as well as wall-large wood painted white-wall molding treatment. Dark wood Jacobean 3¼-inch site-finished wood flooring offsets the white painted wood-trim details throughout the home.

The Nantucket model (first-floor master bedroom, 3 bedrooms upstairs) has a "hip" modern flair, Basich said. "I chose 'several-shades-of-grey' as the color pallet."

The kitchen and family room feature multiple textures and colors of grey-light Lucente grey tile, two combinations of grey woods on the cabinets, and a 5-inch wide grey wood-clad wall treatment. A special mix of two floor stain colors were chosen to bring out "the grey" on the site-finished wood floors.

Timbers Edge offers six different floor plans:

• Two ranch floor plans with all first-floor living;

• Two Cape-Cod floor plans with a master bedroom on the first floor, plus additional bedrooms on second floor;

• And, two traditional 2-story floor-plan designs with second floor bedrooms.

Grand opening prices at Timber Edge range from $694,900 to $804,000.

"We are offering unprecedented value for home buyers who are interested in buying a new, energy-efficient single-family home in the North Shore area," said Kogen-Friedman.

Homes range from 1,860 to 3,100 square feet, with 2-to-4 bedrooms, 2-to-3½ baths and an attached 2-car garage.

KZF Development is known for the ability and willingness to customize a home for their clients.

"If a buyer wants something specific, we will do our best to provide it," Kogen-Friedman said. "Currently we are adding extra bathrooms, elevators, and reconfiguring master bathrooms to remove tubs in lieu of giant shower stalls.

"We've turned bedrooms into master closet space. If there is something you want in your home, we will work with our client to make it happen," she said.

The two models available to see now are:

• The Brookhaven, a 2,053-square-foot ranch-style home with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a study and 2-car attached garage. The home is priced from $714,900.

A covered porch welcomes guests to the Brookhaven's inviting spacious foyer. To the right of the hallway is the home office or study.

The focal point of the ranch home is the large white kitchen with white quartz counter tops cabinets enhanced with antique mirror glass accents. The kitchen opens to the expansive great room area with coiffured ceiling and detail molding on the wall.

Perfect for entertaining guests, the expansive 23¾-by-18½-foot great room features an amazing limestone fireplace and access to an expansive 24-by-12-foot maintenance free deck.

Designed for the empty-nester lifestyle, a formal dining area has its own defined space, said Basich.

The master bedroom is 15-by-18-foot has a tray ceiling, adding 15 feet of dramatic height to the space. The master bath, with a gigantic "no threshold" separate shower stall and soaking tub, has his-and-hers vanities with "quartz" tops.

Two spacious walk-in closets were designed by Pamela Sherman of Chicago Organized Home. The closets have special hanging accessories, jewelry accommodations, shoe rollouts and drawers.

"The closets were thoughtfully designed to appeal to our fashion-savvy clients," said Kogen-Friedman. "Closet space is critical, and having functional use is key. I wanted our clients to be able to utilize all the special bells and whistles Pamela's designs offer."

A second bedroom, a full bath and spacious laundry room/mud room with built in coat-hanging wall complete this "single level living" home. A large unfinished basement is included.

• The Cape-Cod style Nantucket model is a 3,043-square-foot 2-story home with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a study. The home is priced from $804,900.

After entering the home from the covered porch, which is large enough for a table and chairs, guests enter a 40-foot high 2-story foyer crowned with a glass-globe chandelier. The study is right off the foyer.

The home features an enormous 10-by-16-foot island in the kitchen and 12¾-by-15¾-foot dining room. Lofty open space is showcased in the 23¾-by-18-foot great room, which features a 15-foot ceiling and beautiful stone fireplace.

The highlight of the home is the 350-square-foot screened-in porch off the great room, as well as additional maintenance-free deck space.

A 15-by-18-foot first-floor master bedroom has a 13-foot-high double tray ceiling. The master bath features a giant separate shower with extensive marble design work on the wall, as well as a soaking tub with his-and-hers "quartz" vanities.

There is also a bedroom room-size walk-in closet designed by Pamela Sherman.

Closet is outfitted with extensive organizational and storage options that appeal to men and women with discerning taste. The closet features special pant hangers, valet rods, shoe pull-outs, drawers and jewelry storage that allow the client to utilize their closet space to its maximum.

A large laundry/mud room with exposed-hinge, sliding "barn- door" style exit allows access to the 2-car garage.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with walk-in closets, a full bath and a gigantic bonus room. An unfinished basement has a full bath option.

"Designer Laura Basich has excellent taste and style. I'm never disappointed design elements and architectural highlights she creates," said Kogen-Friedman. "Laura helps us select the cabinets, tile, wood flooring size, stain color wall paint-everything down to the hardware. I don't make a move without her."

Basich worked on both model plans with KZF Development from the onset of the Timbers Edge, noted Kogen-Friedman. "She was instrumental in suggesting all of the interior design adjustments, such as moving walls and opening spaces. Ultimately, all redesign work to the plans was done in cooperation with our architecture/land planning firm, HKM and Associates," Kogen-Friedman said.

"HKM's vision was based on the singular intent of fostering a strong sense of community, while incorporating design elements that provide an East Coast feel," Kogen-Friedman said.

The Timbers Edge community reflects pedestrian friendly coastal-style design. All homes have with front porches and rear decks. Paved walkways lead to a community green with benches, pergolas and a fountain.

"Timbers Edge is an alternative to the usual subdivisions found in the suburbs," said Kogen-Friedman. "We are offering a neighborly atmosphere that home buyers of all ages can appreciate."

At the recent ribbon-cutting and grand-opening celebration, one Northbrook Village official said: "Timbers Edge is an example of the right way to build a residential development."

Homes feature a front walk connecting directly to the main sidewalk, with a choice between low, white-picket fences, hedges, or an arbor defining the front yards.

"No matter what you are looking for, we have something for everyone at Timbers Edge," Kogen-Friedman said. "The community is low-maintenance. We provide all landscape and snow removal services."

Timbers Edge is minutes away from all of the great dining, shopping and recreational activities Northbrook has to offer, including Northbrook Court. Sportsman's Country Club, a 27-hole public golf course, is within walking distance. Timbers Edge is minutes from Interstates 294 and 94 and The Metra train station.
