Casino fundraiser has a James Bond theme
It will be time to double down on 007 at the DuPage County Historical Museum's Casino Royale from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at 102 E. Wesley St., Wheaton.
In past years, the signature fundraising event has embraced speak-easy and Gatsby themes, but for 2017, organizers will decorate the museum's auditorium with James Bond's brand.
"We wanted to refresh the event while still keeping it high-end," said Carey Moreland, marketing and development assistant. "This year, we're refining the evening with new decorations, a red carpet, a Bond-themed photo booth and a martini bar."
Every guest receives two complimentary drink tickets, making it easy to sip shaken or stirred as they mingle table to table playing poker, blackjack, craps, and roulette with charity chips. An extra poker table is planned, plus a raffle, silent auction and chance to win a fully stocked wine cellar.
"One of our big-ticket items is a Cubs VIP package, where you could win a tour of Wrigley Field, meet-and-greet with some players, tickets to a game of your choice, and lunch or dinner," Moreland said.
"We'll also have an autographed Kris Bryant jersey, a Chicago golf outing, a skeet shooting package from Medinah Country Club, and a package from Pelican Golf."
Plenty of appetizers will be served throughout the evening, and the big prize of the night features wines that would satisfy Mr. Bond.
"One of the things people really loved last year was the chance to take home an instant wine cellar package that included a new wine cooler and more than $1,000 in fine wines to fill it up," said development director T.J. Hicks.
"We think this year's wine package will be even better, and one lucky guest will be taking home the whole thing."
Guests can win the wine by playing Heads or Tails, a game in which participants guess heads or tails by holding their hands to their head or their tail as Hicks flips a coin. The last player standing takes home the fully stocked wine cellar as grand prize.
"This event gives the museum an opportunity to see people we may not normally see in a historic atmosphere for a fun evening," said Michelle Podkowa, museum manager and educator.
"We are very grateful for our supporters who attend Casino Royale and help us raise money to offer free admission seven days a week and educational programs for children and adults all year long."
Guests must be 21 and older and possess a valid photo ID. The event is black-tie optional.
Tickets are $75 per person, $140 per couple, or $500 per group of 10, and include $50 in charity chips per person, appetizers and two drink tickets. Purchase at dupagemuseum.org.
