Endorsement: Maglio for Roselle village president
For the first time since 1993, Roselle residents will not see Gayle Smolinski on the ballot for village president.
Smolinksi is leaving the top spot with the village well-positioned for her successor.
Two sitting trustees, Wayne Domke and Andrew "Andy" Maglio, are seeking to replace her.
The village is in the middle of a two-year strategic plan that lays out a vision for the village. Past budget deficits have turned into budget surpluses over the past few years.
Domke has served on the village board since 2011. He also served on the Roselle Park District Board from 1999-2011.
Maglio has been on the village board since 2009. Prior to that, he served on the planning and zoning commission from 1986 to 2009.
If elected village president, Domke wants to aggressively market the village to new businesses. He also wants to set aside money to fund "Quiet Zones" for trains passing through downtown.
If he is elected, Maglio wants to look at economic development along Lake Street and work with business owners to increase retention. Maglio is also committed to budgeting conservatively to keep the village out of the deficits it found itself in 2009.
Both candidates are against any attempt by ComEd to place power lines along the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway.
Both candidates offer a wealth of experience and a real passion for the village.
We believe the residents of Roselle will be well-served by either candidate.
Maglio is endorsed.
