Endorsements: Anderson, Rullman, Schuberg for Elburn village board

Kenneth Anderson, Michael Rullman, Patricia Schuberg and Matthew Wilson are running for three 4-year terms on the Elburn Village Board.

Anderson, director of Kane County environmental and water resources, has served on the board since 2009. Schuberg, a publisher's representative, has served on the board since 2013. Rullman, a retiree, and Wilson, a wastewater operator, also vie for the seats.

On the matter of any trimming required in the village budget, Rullman and Schuberg are in favor of reviewing the use of employee overtime compensation. Anderson sees no areas in need of trimming, while Wilson expresses a need to become more familiar with village finances before offering an opinion.

All four candidates are open to potential redevelopment of the St. Gall property on the north end of town as completion of a new St. Gall facility outside of town is completed. Anderson, Rullman, and Schuberg all expressed caution on the limitations for redevelopment that the building in its current state presents. Anderson, Rullman, and Schuberg all expressed the need for a critical preview on any new plans that might be presented for the property.

In terms of the broader issue of north end redevelopment, Anderson and Schuberg are in favor of examining a potential update on an old village land use plan.

All in all, incumbents Anderson and Schuberg offer experience and insight that will be valuable as the village moves forward. Of the newcomers, it's Rullman who strikes us the best prepared to step in and play an influential role in decisions facing Elburn. Anderson, Schuberg and Rullman are endorsed.
