Giant step backward for public education

House Bill HB 610 in Congress will repeal the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 which requires accountability in schools in order to get federal funds.

It will also drop Headstart and Title I reading and math. It will permit public school funding to be used for schools that are for profit. And it will drop nutrition requirements for school lunches. HB 610 can pass by a simple majority in the House and Senate.

This bill will cause our education system to take a giant step backward. We need to tell members of Congress we want school standards.
