Ex-southern IN clerk sent to jail for not paying restitution
COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - A judge has ordered a former southern Indiana town official to jail for not making court-ordered restitution payments for nearly a year.
Senior Judge Stephen Heimann on Thursday ordered former Jonesville Clerk-Treasurer Melissa Schultheis to spend 30 days in the Bartholomew County Jail.
Schultheis pleaded guilty in 2008 to 10 counts of theft over a period of at least seven years from the town about 50 miles south of Indianapolis. She was sentenced to 15 years of probation and ordered to pay nearly $92,500 in restitution over about 25 years.
The (Columbus) Republic reports (http://bit.ly/2lTgBsS ) Heimann also ordered Schultheis' suspended 15-year sentence be extended for three years.
With credit for good behavior and time served nine years ago, the 43-year-old Schultheis should be jailed no more than a few weeks.
