Protect kids, end Rt. 53 extension
Thank you to Gov. Rauner for signing a bill that reduces children's exposure to lead. Now all schools and daycare centers in Illinois are required to test drinking water and inform parents of the results.
Governor, you have another opportunity to protect children in Lake County. The children of Lake County are in danger of having a highway built next to their schools and libraries and in the middle of their communities.
Research shows that if you spend a significant amount of time within 1,500 feet of a highway, then you are twice as likely to have a heart attack or stroke. So while kids will drink lead-free water, children in Lake County are in danger of being exposed to vehicle emissions. Gov. Rauner, I urge you to protect Lake County and end the Route 53 extension.
