Chicago woman charged with battery of man at Elmhurst group home
A Chicago woman is facing felony charges after police say she was caught abusing a disabled adult at an Elmhurst group home.
Lasonya Butler, 43, is charged with aggravated battery. According to court records, she used an open palm to strike a male suffering from "profound mental retardation."
She is currently free on $10,000 bail and is next due in court on Feb. 14.
Elmhurst police responded on Jan. 18 to the home on the 100 block of S. Monterey Street after receiving a report of "abuse by an employee involving a disabled adult victim."
Police said management of the group home, operated by UCP Seguin, became aware of the case when they were shown video showing Butler striking the male several times.
The victim was transported to a hospital for a precautionary examination.
