McHenry GOP happy with status quo

In light of all of the campaign rhetoric from the Republican establishment wing of the McHenry County Board, it was shocking and disappointing to see them sit on their hands when given an opportunity to act on property tax reform.

Chairman Jack Franks is a proven tax fighter, and his reforms would go a long way toward unwinding the mess that the long-serving Republican majority has gotten us into.

Illinois has the dubious distinction of having the highest median property tax rate in the nation, while McHenry County is saddled with property tax rates that are among the 10 worst in the state. Their financial mismanagement continues to make our county less attractive to new residents and businesses alike.

The people voted Chairman Franks into office to bring about change, yet the tax-and-spend Republican supermajority seems perfectly happy with the status quo.
