Girls gymnastics: Fremd goes for season-best 144.35

Fremd's girls gymnastics team roared to a season-best score of 144.35 on Thursday as the host Vikings topped Schaumburg (126.25) and Elk Grove (121.20).

Fremd had the top finisher in each event of the Mid-Suburban League gathering.

Freshman Sam Shimer was tops in vault (9.5). Vikes junior Abby Moran won balance beam (9.55), and classmate Melanie Ng won parallel bars (9.55).

Fremd sophomore Gianna Christodoulopoulos had the top floor exercise score (9.05) and also had the top all-around total (36.35).

Other top contributors for Fremd included junior Courtney Ng on bars (2nd, 9.2), junior Ellyce Wong on vault (tied 2nd, 9.1) and freshman Katie Vessel on floor exercise (2nd, 8.95).

Schaumburg junior Mikayla Vogt tied for second on vault (9.1).

Elk Grove sophomores Anna Sprenger and Jessica Hadler placed third and fourth, respectively, in the all-around.
