Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva celebrating its 175th anniversary

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva is celebrating its 175th anniversary with a series of events during 2017.

The church was founded in 1842 and its building was funded with the help of other congregations.

The story of the historic church - its much-admired building, its interesting congregation, and its original relationship with the Geneva community - will be presented from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, in the commons room at the church, 102 S. Second St.

It will be followed by a question-and-answer session and light refreshments.

Don Brod, retired professor and chair of the department of journalism at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, will present this program filled with anecdotes and warmly told stories. The event is free and the public is invited.

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, established in 1842 and the oldest church in Geneva, is a diverse, welcoming community that endeavors to make its covenant a living reality. It provides religious education and opportunities for spiritual growth. They encourage individual and mutual responsibility as together they work to be a liberal religious voice in the community and a force for compassionate social justice.
