Bring back the Honey Bears
After a disastrous 1975 Bears football season, the Honey Bears cheerleaders came on the scene in 1976 with the unwavering support of George Halas. The Bears experienced some great success all the way up to their spectacular performance in Super Bowl XX.
The Honey Bears were terminated after the Super Bowl, with reports that Bears ownership wanted to be about blood and guts football, and according to McCaskey "the Honey Bear squad is not an acceptable part of the game day experience".
Consider the fact that during the Honey Bear years, the Bears clearly had a higher winning percentage than experienced in the 30 years following (check the stats!). Whether its high school, college or professional cheerleading, it motivates the crowd, the team, and provides inspiration for the whole experience.
The Bears desperately need inspiration, along with a star QB and some essential draft picks. Surely the blood-and-guts strategy is not working and certainly is not producing an acceptable game day experience.
Bring Back the Honey Bears.
