Blackhawks' Campbell admits he needs to play better

While nothing's official yet, Brian Campbell may be a healthy scratch for the second time in four games when the Blackhawks host the Sabres at the United Center Thursday.

Campbell and Michal Rozival were paired at practice Wednesday, both skating outside the top six defensemen.

Coach Joel Quenneville wouldn't say Campbell was out, but the 37-year-old admitted he must play better.

"I don't think I've played my best hockey the last little stretch," said Campbell, who had a 423-consecutive-game streak snapped on Dec. 29. "Thought I was pretty good in Carolina and then don't think I was great last game (at St. Louis). Just got to be more aggressive. Skate better."

Campbell has a minus-5 rating in his past five games and was a minus-2 during the Hawks' 4-1 loss to the Blues. St. Louis tied the game at 1-1 on a second-period goal by Patrik Berglund, with Campbell unable to prevent the shot from right in front of the net.

"I felt like I had half-decent position, but I've got to be a little better. For sure. I know that," Campbell said. "Any time you get scored on I think you're kicking yourself. … But definitely I feel like I've got to make a better play there."

If Campbell sits, Gustav Forsling figures to return after missing three straight games.
