YMCA Holds Summer Camp Open House on January 15

Despite the wintry weather, children and parents can start "thinking summer" with the release of the North Suburban YMCA's Summer Day Camp Program Guide. The 2017 guide is filled with exciting new programs for kids in Pre-K through junior high, including specialty camps in art, science, digital media, and much more. Families can view the complete guide online at NSYMCA.org, and meet camp leadership staff at an open house from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, January 15.

The North Suburban Y's camp programs are designed to provide a welcoming, nurturing, and creative environment to support the development of each child. Y camps offer fun, active experiences that promote friendships, confidence, and curiosity. At the NSYMCA, campers take full advantage of the Y's indoor pool, large gyms, outdoor sports fields, and appealing playgrounds. Many programs also offer weekly field trips to exciting venues around the Chicago suburbs.

New programs for 2017 include innovative camps for special interests, including:

• Fun with Food

• Games of All Sorts

• Experiments and Explosions

• Digital Comic Book Design

• Gaming Design

• Morning of Music & Art

• Art Explorers

These new programs join a list of over 40 specialized and general camp programs to fit children of all ages and interests.

NSYMCA camps also deliver flexibility and value that appeals to parents. Campers can sign up for sessions by the week, accommodating family schedules and allowing children to explore a variety of programs. The Y offers half day and full day camps, before- and after-camp childcare, and even transportation from Northbrook summer schools for afternoon camps. All these options create a truly customized experience to work with any family's situation.

All camp activities are run by highly trained counselors under the leadership of the Y's experienced professional staff. Carol Sassorossi, a veteran NSYMCA coach and sports director, oversees all programs as camp director, with the assistance of Early Childhood Supervisor Shannon Cartier, Sports Camp Supervisor Ashley Almdale, and Traditional Camp Supervisor Kevin Tyner. All four are certified teachers with many years of experience in YMCA camp programs. NSYMCA Visual Arts Director Cathie Winnie and Performing Arts Director Shannon Mundorf oversee the camps in their areas of expertise.

Families are encouraged to learn more at the Y's Camp Open House, January 15 from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The Y is located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. For more information, visit NSYMCA.org or contact Carol Sassorossi, csassorossi@nsymca.org.
