'Husky Heroes' return to Morton Arboretum

Visitors can watch Siberian sled dogs dash through the tree-lined grounds of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle and interact with the energetic and friendly dogs when Husky Heroes returns later this month.

The annual celebration is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29, at 4100 Route 53, Lisle.

Visitors will watch husky sled-pulling and skijoring, a winter sport where dogs pull a person on skis. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., children and adults can visit the dogs and sled teams, learn about their equipment and take pictures with the rigs.

In addition, husky adoption information from Adopt-a-Husky will be available during the event, which is free with regular admission. Visitors also can watch a film about sled dogs and warm up in the arboretum's administration building.

Demonstrations at the dog sled course will take place at 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3:15 p.m.

"Winter is beautiful at the arboretum, and Husky Heroes is a chance for families to explore nature together and see these amazing animals as they race through the arboretum's landscapes," said Jenelle Hardtke, special events manager.

Husky Heroes also will feature hot drinks and snacks available for sale. Visitors are asked to leave their own pets at home.

Dogs are admitted during Dog Admission Days on Saturday, Feb. 4, and Saturday, March 4.
