West Chicago honors legacy business

A West Chicago business, Jel Sert, received the city's first Legacy Business Award as part of the city's Brilliance in Business Awards program.

The new Legacy Award honors a long-standing member of the business community that has served West Chicago for 45 years or more and that has supported the economic vitality of the city over several decades.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary, Jel Sert is a family-owned business in its third generation of ownership and has consistently met its corporate goals while having a positive impact on the community.

For the past 45 years, the company has been located at 310 Spencer St. Jel Sert is one of the city's largest employers, with 75 percent of its roughly 800 employees residing in West Chicago.

Representatives of Jel Sert, along with those from four other winning businesses, attended a recognition breakfast with Mayor Ruben Pineda. Those businesses were Salud Dental for Outstanding Downtown Entrepreneurship; Evo Exhibits for Outstanding Growth; Gloria's Jewelry for Outstanding Small Business; and Wise Plastics Technologies, also for Outstanding Growth.
