Bethlehem Lutheran to host Posada Navideña Friday

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 340 Grand Blvd. in Elgin, invites the community to a "Posada Navideña," a bilingual celebration of the Posada with a traditional meal and a piñata for the kids, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16. It is free.

They will be joined by church members and musicians from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in West Chicago.

The Posada recreates the journey of Mary and Joseph to find lodging in Bethlehem. In Mexico, piñatas are a Christmastime tradition, and they are traditionally filled with bits of fruit, symbolizing the blessings received from God, and the act of sharing them with others symbolizes Christian compassion.
