Boys swimming: Prospect picks up key MSL East win

Prospect, the defending champion in Mid-Suburban East boys swimming, has the inside track to repeating as the divisional champion.

The host Knights topped Rolling Meadows 106-80 on Friday, making them 2-0 in the East - and with perhaps their toughest divisional dual-meet foe in the rear-view mirror.

The teams traded wins through much of the meet, but two events went heavily in Prospect's favor.

In the meet-opening medley relay, the Knights finished 1-2, with the top grouping of Alex Jarosz, Jacob Kosinski, Matt Inserra and Nick Partipilo winning in 1:44.32. And in diving, Anthony Liva, Aiden Busiel and Aaron Busiel took the top three spots.

Individually for Prospect, Inserra won the 50 free (22.47) and the 100 free (49.92), and Kosinski won the 100 breast.

Rolling Meadows junior Josh Dellorto was tops in the 200 IM (2:03.80) and 500 free (4:58.77), Jake Pors won the 200 free (1:53.47) and Filip Pancerz won the 100 back. The Mustangs also won both freestyle relays, with Nate Pardini joining the effort of Dellorto, Pors and Pancerz.

"It was great to see some terrific swims out of our guys," said Rolling Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta, "and likewise, it's very nice to know we helped bring out some great performances in Prospect."

Conant d. Hoffman Estates: Visiting Hoffman Estates had plenty of first-place finishers, but Conant's deeper lineup was able to generate wins in both freestyle relays in a 106-80 win for the Cougars.

Hoffman Estates' individual winners included Greg Baranov (200 and 500 free), Mark Heitkotter (100 free), Mike Polzin (100 back) and Andy Hobar (100 breast).

Conant's Cole Aykroid soared to 290.90 to win diving, and the Cougars also had victories from Justin Lim (50 free and 100 fly) and Malhar Kate (200 IM).

Barrington d. Schaumburg: The host Broncos were a decisive winner, getting victories in all the relays and two wins apiece from Colin O'Leary and John Lagoni in a 129-57 decision.

O'Leary won the 100 fly (54.87) and 100 back (54.50), while Lagoni was tops in the 200 free (1:48.68) and 100 free (54.51).

Schaumburg had a victory in the 500 free, where Tyler Reynolds was tops in 5:12.67.

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: Wheeling's Ricky Reeve competed in three consecutive events - the 500 free, 200 free relay and 100 back - and won two of them to help the Wildcats to a 102-70 victory over the host Grens.

Reeve was tops in the 500 in 5:13.07 and in the back in 1:02.26. He also anchored the runner-up 200 free relay and had a leg on Wheeling's winning 400 free relay.

Jacob Gorenyuk was also a double individual winner for Wheeling (200 free, 100 fly). Nick Konstantos won the 100 breast in 1:05.71, and Victor Witkowski was tops in the 50 free (24.89).

The Grenadiers had individual wins from Mike Kulpa (100 free) and Adrian Wlodarz (200 IM).
