Get your reservation in for 30th annual Madrigal Dinner
West Aurora High School's 30th annual Madrigal Dinner will be Saturday, Dec. 10, in the school cafeteria, 1201 W. New York St. in Aurora. The public is invited.
"Music, food and entertainment will abound," said Elizabeth Hutchinson, event adviser and West vocal music teacher.
The event opens with seating of guests in the great hall from 6 to 6:15 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., a town crier will welcome guests to the banquet.
West Aurora culinary arts students will prepare the feast. Entree choices are pork cutlet stuffed with spinach and roasted red peppers or spinach and ricotta stuffed shells with red sauce.
Accompanying entrees will be twice-baked potato, roasted vegetables, fresh-baked bread, dinner salad and cheesecake with cherry sauce.
Volunteers will deck the hall the Friday before the event.
West's 29-member Madrigal singers and wenches from the school's Lyric Chorus will perform choral music from the Renaissance to today in period costumes. Choristers have been rehearsing since August on school days, Hutchinson said.
Also, students will perform a masque, a short Renaissance-themed play parody of the William Tell story. Included will be a vocal arrangement of the William Tell Overture.
From the Madrigal Singers, a king and queen will reign over the festivities, joined by a jester.
Tickets are $25. Deadline to order tickets is Tuesday, Dec. 6.
