Wauconda celebrates Thanksgiving with annual Turkey Trot

It wouldn't be Thanksgiving Day in Wauconda without the holiday benefit run.

The sixth annual Wauconda Turkey Trot featured a 4-mile chip-timed race around Bangs Lake and a 2-mile fun run/walk all in the name of fun, exercise and raising money for the Wauconda/Island Lake Food Pantry.

The day featured T-shirts for participants, live music, awards for the 4-mile winners, snacks and a fun-filled family event.

Around 900 runners and walkers participated in Thursday's event, which started and ended on Main Street in downtown Wauconda.

Wil Brewster, 22, of Grayslake was the top finisher in the 4-mile course. Brewster also finished first in last year's race.
